A curation by Vlad Merariu, Curator at Dance Artworks Gallery - Desert Figures is a collection about presence in emptiness, and the particular power of a human or animal form set against an infinite, indifferent landscape. From Andr Bel's monumental Pietre in oil to Daniel Lanoux's collaged Afghan on wood, from Christian Delavelle's Cavaliers du désert to Tom Blood's The Journey, the seventeen works span oil, acrylic, ink, pigment, and engraving, tracing the desert across the Sahara, the Arabian peninsula, the steppe, and the dune. Vitaly Moiseev's embossed falcon commands the sky while Sylvie Pulur's rooted linen canvas asks what it means to belong to arid ground. The moodboard is burnt sienna and bone white, shadow blue and raw ochre, the hard light of noon and the long silence that follows it.
