A curation by Raffaella Nobili, Owner and curator at Paraventi Giapponesi - This curation is part of a project divided into two complementary moments: Land-scapes and Sea-scapes.
Both reflect on the theme of the horizon as a border, a limes, which on the one hand holds back, on the other opens up the possibility of overcoming.
In this first part, our gaze rests on the earth as a familiar and welcoming space, shaped by the gaze and gestures of everyday life, by collective habits and rituals.
In the second, the sea offers an open field of navigation, a territory of the unknown, which escapes all custom.
In Hans-Georg Gadamer's thought, the horizon is a mobile and never fixed boundary: a place where different visions converge and condense.
This “fusion of horizons” thus becomes a metaphor for the dialogue between humans and the landscape, subject to changing meaning depending on who observes.
The selected works narrate territories shaped by human intervention.
Reassuring, familiar, circumscribed spaces where the horizon appears beyond our certainties.
It is a border that contains and protects us but at the same time offers itself as a possible crossing point.
