Mirror. A gap between worlds. - curated by Raffaella Nobili

A curation by Raffaella Nobili, Owner and curator at Paraventi Giapponesi - I chose the theme of the mirror as a revealing tool: a device that highlights parts of ourselves that are normally invisible. In the reflection, the image is never identical, but altered by the medium that generates it—water, glass, or a mirrored surface. What we see is not a copy, but a revealing variation, a perceptual diaphragm in which reality is transformed. Sometimes the mirror returns a perfect, albeit inverted, image, as in the works of Peter Whitcombe and Peter Cech; other times it becomes an environmental device that amplifies reality, as in the site-specific interventions of Bern Caspar Dietrich. In other cases, the alteration of the human figure's reflection, as in Cerutti's work, opens an investigation into the self and its double, questioning the nature of perception and consciousness. The mirror thus becomes a space of transition, a symbol of a reality that duplicates and questions itself. Each vision appears partial, and identity, like a prism pierced by light, is revealed only in the multiplicity of its reflections.
