In the casting industry, bronze sculpture is the most popular material; it is often referred to simply as a "bronze". It is used for both individual and group statues, reliefs, and small figurines, and for fitting bronze elements onto other objects such as furniture.
Bronze alloys typically expand slightly before setting, filling fine details in molds. And as they cool, they shrink a little, making them easier to separate from the mold.
Ancient civilizations used bronze for art, starting around the time alloy was introduced for tools and edged weapons. The Dancing Girl from Mohenjodaro, from the Harappan civilization around 2500 BCE, is perhaps the oldest bronze sculpture.
