Minimalist art does not seek to replicate reality, but rather intends to engage the viewer in the present, through the action of looking at what is in front of them. The movement found its roots in abstraction and went on to influence much of the thinking behind conceptual art.
Minimalist works were often thought to represent truth. There is no pretense to minimalism since it does not try to be anything that it is not...the simplicity of form, harmonious colours and clean lines symbolize purified beauty and truth.
