Our best mountain landscapes

Mountains are a singular beauty, and for centuries, have inspired contradictory feelings from sheer dread to amazement.

Mountains first appeared in painting with the invention of perspective, however it was only at the start of the XIXth century that the mountainous landscape became a popular genre in itself.

Romantics, like Friedrich or Turner, perceived mountains as hostile and a threat to human presence and saw the transcendent power of nature. Impressionist and Fauvist painters liked to play with wide range of colors and the reverberation of light on snow-covered mountains. Symbolists tried to decipher the mysteries surrounding the Sacred Mountains. Photography documented the beginnings of mountaineering and glorified the men who climbed to the highest peaks!

In this collection, Singulart's artists represent the mountain by testifying to its beauty, preserving its view it or evoking myths and old beliefs.

Let yourself be inspired by these magical mountainous landscapes!
