A curation by Flavio Scaloni, Gallery Manager at Galerie Lo Scalo - I'm delighted to introduce a selection of works united by the theme of Silver. This metallic hue is a powerful source of inspiration, symbolically associated with modernity, technology, reflection, and illusion. Psychologically, silver suggests ambiguity and a futuristic, often cool detachment. It stands apart from gold's imperial warmth, offering a sleek, industrial sensibility. Post-1950, silver experienced a cultural and artistic explosion. The most celebrated pioneer was Andy Warhol, who used "silvering" extensively in his work, most notably his famous Silver Factory studio and his Silver Clouds (1966) sculptures—helium-filled pillows that floated freely, embodying weightlessness and ephemeral glamour. Conceptual and minimalist artists also embraced silver's non-referential quality; for instance, Donald Judd frequently utilized polished aluminum for its pure, industrial finish, eliminating emotional traces. Furthermore, the light and reflective properties of silver have been key in the Light and Space movement, especially in works that manipulate perception. This collection explores how emerging artists utilize silver pigments, foils, and mixed media to capture the color's inherent tension between surface and depth.
