A curation by Raffaella Nobili, Owner and curator at Paraventi Giapponesi - In the Neonian Baptistery of Ravenna, the empty throne, Etimasia, announces the return of Christ: a symbol of a presence evoked by absence.
In the works collected here, that expectation is renewed in everyday gestures. The shirt abandoned on the chair in Alexei Butyrskiy's Worn by Time, the cut apple on the table in Martin Wojnowski's Bad Apple, or the dog silently waiting in Komal Sharma's In the Room become synecdoches of the living, objects that hold a breath, a memory, a presence.
The empty chair is no longer just a symbol of the divine, but of our own passage: fragile, domestic, human.
