Françoise Lavenu, schilder en graveur, begon haar artistieke opleiding al in haar kindertijd met museumbezoeken en reizen. Later volgde ze een opleiding aan de École des Beaux-Arts in Clermont-Ferrand, terwijl ze tegelijkertijd een carrière nastreefde in zowel ziekenhuiswerk als de kunst. Ze geeft de voorkeur aan olieverf, af en toe acrylverf, en beoefent figuratieve abstractie, waarbij ze voornamelijk paletmessen, spatels en zelfs haar vingers gebruikt. Ze combineert dynamische gebaren met impasto, geïnspireerd door expressionisme, fauvisme en impressionisme. In haar landschappen brengt ze intens de balans tussen kracht en zachtheid over, in een poging om rauwe emotie en vrijheid van interpretatie te onthullen.
