Luca Lazar (Luka Lasareishvili) werd geboren in 1957 in Tbilisi, Georgië. Hij studeerde af met een Master of Arts aan de Georgian State Art Academy in Tibilisi (1976-1982). Hij woonde enkele jaren in Moskou, Parijs en Keulen voordat hij naar New York verhuisde waar hij sinds 2003 woont en werkt. Tijdens zijn carrière heeft Lazar in verschillende media gewerkt, waaronder schilderkunst, video, installaties en objecten.
