Ik heb twintig jaar besteed aan het opbouwen van een bedrijf. Daarna, in de stilte die daarop volgde, begon ik te schilderen.

Mijn werk is geworteld in het christelijk geloof, niet als thema, maar als fundament. Ik geloof dat gebrokenheid niet het einde van een verhaal is. Het is juist het begin van het meest eerlijke deel.

De craquelé in mijn schilderijen is niet kunstmatig gecreëerd. Het ontstaat vanzelf. Ik bouw lagen op tot ze barsten, organisch, onvoorspelbaar, en dan schilder ik elke barst met de hand met Lascaux goudverf. Stukje voor stukje. Geen twee oppervlakken zijn ooit hetzelfde.

Goud is geen versiering. Het is het licht dat door de gebroken plekken heen dringt.
