Paul Foote is een autodidactisch schilder wiens vroege jaren, waarin hij het ruige Zuidereiland van Nieuw-Zeeland verkende, zijn kunst diepgaand hebben gevormd. Hij creëert realistische landschappen en zeegezichten, soms neigend naar het impressionisme, met een meesterlijke focus op de lichtval.
