Stephen Nolan is een gevestigde multimediakunstenaar uit Ierland, die zijn werk in het VK, Ierland en Frankrijk heeft tentoongesteld. Vooral beïnvloed door de expressionistische bewegingen van de vooroorlogse periode en de esthetiek van het Europese fauvisme, gebruikt hij vergelijkbare gedurfde kleuren en expressieve vormen om ideeën als leven en dood, geheugen en geschiedenis, architectuur en samenleving te verkennen. Zijn aanpak verschuift van collage naar olieverf op canvas en hout, en hij behoudt overal een gebalanceerde esthetische signatuur.
