Über das Werk
Collserola II is a large-scale mixed-media painting inspired by the vegetation and atmosphere of the Collserola landscape near Barcelona. At 175 × 130 cm, the work has an immersive presence, inviting the viewer into a dense, shifting world of plants, movement and colour.
Franziska Ostermeier transforms impressions of Mediterranean nature into a layered composition of organic forms, delicate lines and expressive gestures. Branches, leaves and grasses… emerge from the surface and dissolve again into abstraction. Soft greens, pale lavender, earthy browns and muted yellows evoke filtered light, growth and the sensory experience of moving through wild vegetation.
Created with acrylic paint, chalk, coloured pencils, pastel chalk and oil pastel, the painting combines transparent areas, drawn marks and richly worked surfaces. The contrast between precise botanical details and freer passages gives the work a sense of movement and depth.
