Über das Werk
A lean, reddish-brown dog, is depicted in a state of profound rest, sprawled across a cool blue pillow and a crumpled white sheet, all set against a warm wooden floor. The intimate, unidealized portrayal captures the raw presence and vulnerability of the animal. The meticulous rendering of textures—the dog's short coat, the soft folds of fabric, and the grain of the floor—reflects a careful, realist observation, creating a quiet yet compelling study…
of life. The artwork evokes a sense of stillness and deep repose.
This painting serves as a tender homage to Lucian Freud, evident in its elevated perspective looking down upon the subject—a sleeping dog. This choice of viewpoint and the inclusion of an animal directly quote Freud's artistic approach and his lifelong affinity for painting them.
