Phillip Jones è nato a Little Rock, in Arkansas, nel 1962 e ha ricevuto la sua prima macchina fotografica a sei anni. Nel 1970 ha partecipato al suo primo workshop di fotografia, un evento della durata di una settimana, dove ha appreso numerose tecniche di composizione. L'abilità più importante che ha perfezionato è stata quella di manipolare e distorcere la luce. Jones ha sempre avuto il sogno di possedere un proprio studio fotografico.
Jones è diventato professionista nel 1980 dopo essere entrato nell'aeronautica militare statunitense. Ha studiato i grandi maestri del passato.
Jones è un fotografo con decenni di esperienza, profondamente esperto sia nelle tecniche tradizionali di camera oscura che in quelle di colorazione manuale. Manipola con maestria pellicole a colori e stampe in bianco e nero su carta, impiegando un particolare metodo a tre zone per creare ricche variazioni tonali e sottili illusioni ottiche. Il suo stile classico e pragmatico trasforma la realtà, invitando gli spettatori a percepire una bellezza nascosta appena oltre l'apparenza. Le sue immagini evocano pace e armonia, con l'obiettivo di lenire e commuovere profondamente l'anima. Mai con l'ausilio del computer.
