Acqua – a cura di Flavio Scaloni

Una curatela di Flavio Scaloni, Gallery Manager presso Galerie Lo Scalo – Water, the source of all life, has long been a profound and versatile theme for artists. It is a powerful symbol of change, cleansing, and the flow of time. A calm, reflective body of water can evoke feelings of tranquillity and introspection, while a tumultuous sea can represent danger, chaos, and the sublime power of nature. Psychologically, water often connects to our subconscious and the ebb and flow of emotions, making it a mirror for the human soul. In contemporary art, water has been reinterpreted through a modern lens. The German artist Gerhard Richter has created photorealistic paintings of seascapes that blur the line between photography and painting, as seen in his series 'Seascapes' (1969–present), which are both a study of light and an exploration of the abstract. The photographer Hiroshi Sugimoto has dedicated an entire series to capturing the essence of water and light. In his series 'Seascapes', he photographs the horizon line over a body of water with long exposures, resulting in images that feel both timeless and deeply meditative. This collection celebrates the infinite forms and meanings of water, as seen through the eyes of diverse artists.
