Su quest'opera
“In this piece, I tried to express an inner tension — that feeling of being stuck between two polarities, two emotional states. It’s the portrait of a disjointed identity, like walking with both feet in the same shoe.”
The face emerging from the canvas doesn’t seek beauty or symmetry. It’s not a self-portrait, yet it carries a part of me. The colors — acidic greens, stagnant yellows, sharp reds — layer over each other like thoughts that won’t settle.… The divided background speaks of an inner world that refuses to align, a constant struggle between stillness and discomfort.
I chose to work with both oil and acrylic precisely for their incompatibility: one dries fast, the other stays wet, messy, alive. Just like emotions that overlap and overwhelm.
This work was born from a place of vulnerability, but it finds its strength in the material, in the color, in the honesty of the brushstrokes. It’s my way of saying: even when we are distorted, we are still alive.

Pier Maria Magnesa
Italia
