„I try to harmoniously combine elements of realism and abstraction in a way which is relevant and interesting in this post-internet era."

Megan Archer, born in 1988, in New Zealand is a painter and collage artist. Having studied painting at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand, she is currently living and working in Berlin, Germany. Her work explores concepts of identity and sexual intimacy in a world that relies so heavily on technology.

Technological Influence

Archer’s work is both a celebration and condemnation of technology and its ubiquitous influence on our identity and how we navigate sexual intimacy. In the same instant, social media and the internet are able to connect us yet still shroud us in a layer of falsity.

Subverting the Human Form

Archer's realist oil paintings depict the human form, which is without a doubt the most widely represented subject in the art historical cannon. Painting with oil is a traditional approach, yet Archer uses collage as the starting point for her paintings before subjecting the image to an overt digital manipulation in order to modernise the subjects and distort the genre. The Realist yet surreal final image is a homage to each step of the process.

Emerging Talent

The young painter is fast discovering success, having her work held in public collections in Germany such as the Enter Art Foundation Collection. She has exhibited in solo and group shows in both Germany and New Zealand.
