Über das Werk
In meinem Werk vereine ich Akrylfarben mit der Klarheit des Minimalismus und den verzerrten Formen des Kubismus. Durch die Darstellung der Figuren möchte ich die Komplexität menschlicher Beziehungen und ihre emotionale Verflechtung ausdrücken. Die abstrakten Formen und gedämpften Farben laden dazu ein, in die tiefere Bedeutung einzutauchen und gleichzeitig Harmonie und Ruhe zu spüren. Bernard Šimunović works with the line — not because he chose it, but because it was always there.
His practice is rooted not in theory, but in craft. Long before the academy, he knew the point as a precise, irrevocable gesture — set into material, obligating toward what must not be forgotten. After studies in Sarajevo, interrupted by war in 1992, and their continuation in Bielefeld, his work moved through surrealist oil paintings, figurative reduction, and finally to Relational Lines.
In Relational Lines, the figure has not disappeared. It has become relationship. Two lines approaching, touching, missing each other. What becomes visible is not the body — but what arises and remains between two people.
