Elena Vasilyeva's artistic journey began with academic training in enamel art — a discipline demanding jeweler-like precision. Yet it was twenty years immersed in doll-making, including participation in international exhibitions, that truly shaped her visual language: working with volume, drapery, and the "animation" of form — a craft doll artists spend years perfecting.
Traces of that world — recurring doll-like figures and motifs — still run through her work today. Over time, this tactile, decades-long experience evolved into her own signature collage technique: a digital image serves only as a starting point, which the artist then fully reworks by hand — through cord relief, papier-mâché, and layers of acrylic. The flat digital image gains physical volume and texture inherited from doll artistry, carried into the space of contemporary painting.
