Not every memory is quiet. Some burn. The Last Light is the most intense moment within Somewhere Before — the instant the sky doesn't shift gently, but transforms with full force before night takes over.
A lake, framed by dark pines, mirrors a fire of orange and violet, while wild red blooms along the shore hold onto the last warmth of the day. This is the place where memory doesn't fade quietly, but shows itself once more with full intensity — before… it disappears.

Evgenija Koch is a contemporary painter based in Hannover, Germany. Born in St. Petersburg, she trained in drawing and painting at the Russian Academy of Arts before studying oil painting in Germany and attending the Free Academy of Fine Arts in Hannover.
Since 2013, her work has been exhibited internationally from Zürich to Dubai, Miami to Venice and held in corporate collections including Norton Rose Fulbright, Ingenico, and Endress+Hauser.
In 2026, Koch began Somewhere Before, a new series exploring the intersection of memory and landscape. Painted in oil on canvas, enriched with mixed media, the works depict places that exist nowhere and everywhere at once capturing the feeling of having been somewhere you have never visited.
