Über das Werk
A totem is a concept from anthropology and religious studies. It refers to a sacred symbol—usually an animal, plant, or natural phenomenon—that serves as a spiritual guardian, ancestor, or emblem for a social group, tribe, or clan. In modern language, an object, person, or institution that stands as an absolute symbol for a specific movement, era, or idea is often called a totem.
My painting is an abstract meditation on what a totem could be inthe… modern world. Maybe a smartphone, a television or some other technical gadget that influences our life like a spirit. I mostly used earthy and natural colors in reminiscence of wood, sand, stone, sky and the sun.
