Ausgehend von den Symbolen unserer Gesellschaft – einer zunehmend psychologisch hinterfragten Kommunikation durch Text und Bild – bricht Peter Vahlefeld den Kontext solch vertrauter Selbstverständlichkeiten mit künstlerischen Mitteln auf und bezieht ihn in seine Malerei ein. Manche Motive mutieren zu völlig abstrakten Farbräumen, während andere Bilder noch objektive Details wie Typografie oder figurative Elemente offenbaren. In seinen Übermalungen inszeniert er so ein dialektisches Verhältnis von Sichtbarem und Verborgenem und damit ein schönes Spiel von Verstecken und Enthüllen.
