Blue Jeans – une curation de Flavio Scaloni

Une curation de Flavio Scaloni, Gallery Manager chez Galerie Lo Scalo – Blue jeans are the ultimate symbol of democratization, youth rebellion, and utilitarian endurance. Originally crafted as durable workwear, denim has evolved into an architectural skin that carries the psychological weight of individual history, retaining the creases and fading of the lives lived inside them. In art history, particularly from 1950 onward, this material shifted from subcultural uniform to high-art medium. Contemporary artists like Ian Berry have institutionalized the fabric, utilizing discarded textures in complex collages like - Secret Garden (2017) to capture the melancholy of modern urban life. Pop and conceptual pioneers have long treated the garment as an icon of street culture and globalized identity. In photography, the world-famous Bruce Davidson immortalized the rebellious soul of the fabric in his seminal series Brooklyn Gang (1959), where denim jackets and jeans define the existential cool of mid-century youth. This selection explores how contemporary creators continue to use indigo as a raw, tactile canvas.
