Some images are never definitive.
They appear, transform and disappear.
In these works, colour reacts to heat.
When the temperature rises above twenty-seven degrees, certain traces become invisible.
But invisible does not mean absent.
I am interested in this fragile space between presence and absence, between what we see and what continues to exist even when it is no longer visible.
Each painting exists in a state of continuous possibility.…
Like memory.
Like emotions.
Like everything that passes through us and continues to generate meaning.

Annika Dzerve is a Latvian-born, Italy-based contemporary artist working with painting and mixed media.
Her practice explores transformation as a continuous process, where identity exists in a state of flux. Earlier works focused on the dissolution of the female figure, while her current series, Regenerative States, moves into abstraction, investigating painting as a field of continuous generation.
Through layered gestures, fluid materials, and atmospheric surfaces, she creates images shaped by forces of attraction, fragmentation, and emergence, where destruction and creation become inseparable.
Her process often incorporates organic materials such as wine and coffee, emphasizing the role of matter in transformation.
