Mark De Roeck, gevormd door decennialange ervaring in grafisch ontwerp, reclame en fotografie in Vlaanderen en Brussel, benadert het beeld als een stille daad van constructie. Geworteld in visuele verhalen, maar tegelijkertijd weerstand biedend aan het voor de hand liggende narratief, put zijn werk uit de erfenis van de Nieuwe Topografische Beweging, waarin landschappen worden gedistilleerd, afgevlakt en opnieuw vormgegeven. Het vertrouwde lost op in composities van vlakken en lijnen, zwevend ergens tussen document en schilderij. Zijn beelden nodigen uit tot stilte – een aandachtige pauze waarin het over het hoofd geziene en het vluchtige naar boven komen.
