Over dit kunstwerk
In this chaotic world, it is important to remain positively connected with others, but also with myself. I translate this positive connection, or rather the energy within me, into signs on the canvas.
Signs have always played a role in my work. At the academy, they became a form of “surrealist automatic writing.” Later, these signs became a conversation with my deceased mother. I painted monumental forms that reminded me of gravestones as a background… for the signs.
Now, forty years later, I feel that these signs are still alive, as are the signs of the energy channels from the ancient chakra teachings. Coloured spirals and bold signs dancing around an energy core seem to move towards enlightenment. The combination of searching for the energy channels within my own body, inspired by the ancient chakra teachings, together with these unconscious signs that seem to come from my toes, creates a renewed image.
