Mr & Mme Gorgô

Mr & Mme Gorgô (their artist name) have been working together on the same paintings for 15 years. Mr Gorgô (Michel Gouteux) is mainly responsible for the composition, while Mme Gorgô (Bénédicte Devillers) carries out the execution on the canvas, using oil paint as their sole medium.

Mr Gorgô is entirely self-taught, even though he has been painting for 40 years. Mme Gorgô, on the other hand, pursued her studies at the Beaux-Arts in Le Havre and at the School of Decorative Arts in Paris, which has given her a strong technical foundation.

Their figurative painting blends surrealism and magical realism, sometimes even flirting with naïve art. It seeks to revisit the archetypes of mythology within a universe that disregards historical eras. Their works radiate a dreamlike poetry infused with humor, aiming to disturb the usual perception of reality while continually inviting the viewer to dream.
