The work is a piece that examines the relationship between the material impulse and the immaterial complexity of thought.
I did a series of exploratory exercises with negative space and after daily drawing exercises, I saw the relationship between negative space and the unconscious or memory within the process of thinking and drawing.
From this, I created the series of drawings. This work is, in essence, a conceptual study on how the drawing… process relates to the genesis and entanglement of human thought.
Édgar Güiza is a Colombian painter, draftsman, and printmaker, trained both empirically and academically in visual arts. He employs mixed media techniques such as graphite, charcoal, paint, and printmaking; his style explores the interplay between figuration and abstraction, fusing matter and spirituality and incorporating symbolism. His work explores themes such as duality, spirituality, identity, and self-awareness, conveying existential doubts, serenity, and states of profound calm.
