It is in the soft light and hushed calm of my studio that I work alone. Focused on my work, without haste or impatience, I am in the present moment, completely immersed in what will become a new work. My breathing is calm and deep, similar to that which I experience when I meditate. My mind is clear-sighted, connected to the universe, of which this new canvas will be a window.
During a visit to my studio, an art enthusiast told me, "Looking at your… work, I receive messages of peace." Another, his eyes alternately closed and wide open, with an incredibly gentle smile, murmured, "I hear music, and it comes from elsewhere." Others have told me, "When you enter your paintings, the abstract forms come alive as characters, fantastical animals, humorous or dramatic. The grand theater of life." This description applies to all my work; thank you.
Éric Vermeil works with oil paints on tissue paper and Japanese calligraphic paper. He creates sculptures from composite materials, drawing on his experience in set design and decoration. He favors abstraction, composing spontaneously, without themes or titles, guided by the present moment and the materials themselves. His works, oscillating between gestural freedom and experimentation with materials, invite the viewer to an authentic encounter, to feel a universal and sacred connection, transcending all barriers.
