About this artwork
This artwork is about my daughter. It's about the expression in which she has really found herself, dance. It's about confidence, courage, talent coming to the fore. When she danced, behind the outer beauty, I could see the strength and sensitivity deep inside. When I worry about her, I think back to these experiences and draw strength from them.
The painting is a representation of the tension between the outwardly delicate and fragile young girl… and the inner strength she expresses through her dance. The figure's details, painted with delicate brushstrokes, contrast with the raw, bold colours of the rest of the painting.
