About this artwork
Zarafa is about choosing peace and beauty. Everything that exists in this reality consists of the following four: the righteous, the nurturing, the abundant and the mysterious. It is in the proportions of these four elements, that the complexity of each individual, being and thing is woven, showing uniqueness and personality. I choose kindness and wholesomeness in each of them. Therefore, Zarafa may not be just a mere portrait of a giraffe: all the… elements in the composition may come together to depict the individuality of anything else. It may describe another person, an object, it may even be a self-portrait...
On another note, I chose the name Zarafa, after an extensive search on the subject of the giraffe as a cultural symbol throughout history. I particularly liked the story of a real giraffe given as a present from Muhammad Ali of Egypt to king Charles X of France in 1827, being the first giraffe in Europe, at Jardins de Plantes in Paris. Her name was Zarafa.
Ștefana Inczeffi Duma is a multidisciplinary artist skilled in painting, photography, printmaking, and animation, with a foundation in interior architecture and intensive studies under masters like Aaron Blaise and Don Bluth. She merges expressive realism with organic abstraction, employing acrylics and pastels to create compositions where patterns, animals, and human forms intertwine to embody nature’s complexity. Her art radiates peace and splendor, inviting viewers into a harmonious connection with the nurturing, abundant, and mysterious elements of the world, all suffused with reverence for nature’s sacred beauty.
