About this artwork
This piece with its sea blues and greens suggests a shore line riddled with bits of softened glass, barnacles and worn rocks. As with all of these pieces it is about time and the interactions between water, wind and land. It is about memory and the accumulation of experience which contributes to every unique individual being.
« The essence of life is to observe our experiences. Making art is a way to process, reflect on and communicate the observations. »
Abbey Stace was born in Philadelphia, PA in 1970. Her work sits comfortably within contemporary abstraction while maintaining an intimate connection to nature and materiality. Abbey has sought to engage in the modern tradition of experimentation by embracing a lack of control. She builds each piece in layers, allowing her materials to initiate the composition, textures and colors while guiding them toward formal balance. In an era increasingly dominated by speed and a desire to control our experience, her slow, process-oriented approach invites viewers to pause, observe, and contemplate. Each piece is an exercise in the appreciation of entropy and an expression of our interdependence with nature. She has exhibited internationally and is part of private collections all over the world. She lives and works in Philadelphia, PA and Edinburgh, Scotland
