"Biological Abstraction" Scratchboard Art is a 2026 monochrome engraving that investigates organic structures through deliberate, hand-carved gestures.
The composition centers on extracting light from darkness. Fine cuts across the black-coated surface uncover the luminous white layer below, enabling biomorphic forms to surface gradually — as though discovered rather than constructed.
The work evolved through a sustained dialogue between resistance… and precision. Executed on black-coated cardboard instead of professional scratchboard, the material demanded greater physical force, patience, and control, turning the drawing process into a tactile negotiation.
Inspired by microscopic botanical and biological illustrations, the piece refrains from literal depiction. Scientific imagery becomes a point of departure, translated into a restrained abstract language shaped by contrast, texture, and rhythm.
The deep shadow frame (23 × 28 × 6 cm) adds architectural presence.
