About this artwork
This 8x8x2.5" sculpture diorama is part of a 64 piece series of boxes. 32 of those are light color themes and 32 are dark color themes.
Each square has its own story. When all 64 are complete they will comprise a 3D 64x64" chessboard that can be hung on special hanging strips or placed on a customized table. This series was inspired by Netflix Queen's Gambit. The collectors acquiring one, two, three, or more of these pieces will have a chance to… get together with other collectors who have the other pieces and create one big three-dimensional chessboard and play a game from all parts of the world. Once the series is complete there will be a limited edition print of the board on metal in various sizes to be placed on a table or hung on a wall. Also, Rosenberg invites all to participate in making chess pieces in their own interpretation and style to complement the chessboard.

Aleks Rosenberg is a multi-disciplinary artist and filmmaker who resides in the United States and has exhibited and sold his works internationally. He received his BFA from Pratt Institute and MFA from Yale University School of Art. The central themes found in his works relate to the 'outside looking in' and the 'sun will always come up tomorrow'. For Rosenberg, there has always been tension between darkness and light, and as such, his compositions seek to find a balance between the two extremes. Working through series, he uses contrasting found or repurposed materials to leave clues for stories to be told.
