About this artwork
Inspired by the jazz piece "Mare Nostrum," this work translates into color and gesture the fluid encounter between three musical voices: breath, respiration, light. The layers of paint extend like soundscapes, crossed by subtle lines, suspended bursts, zones of silence. The surface becomes an inner sea, a place of dialogue between depths and transparency.
In this abstract composition, the rhythm of the brush follows that of improvisation: fragile,… free, almost ethereal. The nuances oscillate between Mediterranean clarity and the shadow of a distant memory. "Mare Nostrum" thus becomes a space of resonance and mystery—a territory without borders, where the pictorial gesture seeks to capture the echo of a musical breath.
"Aleksandra Nowak is a visual artist, translating her training in painting and her musical background. She implements a contemporary style, combining the abstract and the expressive with figurative elements inspired by the sounds that surround her. Questioning the relationship between human architecture and nature, and exploring the role of women in society, her works depict a sensory meditation on each chosen theme."
