About this artwork
This painting is my attempt to bring smiles back—not just to faces, but to memories, to spaces, to myself and others. Using acrylic, charcoal, and spray paint on canvas, I created a scene that hovers between hope and melancholy.
The layers of paint and textures reflect the complexity of human emotions. The use of charcoal lends the work a certain rawness, while the spray paint captures spontaneous impulses. Every line, every shade is a fragment… of an emotion, an attempt to make the invisible visible.
This work is about the longing for joy, the need to bring light into dark memories.
With [make them smile again.] I invite the viewer to confront their own emotions and perhaps rediscover a piece of their lost smile.
Alessa Kapp is a self-taught artist with a background in fashion and journalism, using analog and digital media, mixed media, and typographic elements.
