About this artwork
CUT IN TWO is a painting made with acrylic colors on wood. It belongs to series dedicated to swimming and water and celebrates the union between color and the energy of sport and motion. My particular style in painting these kind of scenes has matured step by step during these last years and in this artwork in particular, the style has become more stylized and almost abstract. The colored trail behind the swimmer becomes a sort of shattering explosion…
of palette knife strikes that wraps his body. The deep blue water embraces the athlete while diving into its dark blue depth, almost a kind of cosmic space, a return into the universe of water where we belong to.

Alessandro Piras is an experienced artist based in Italy whose paintings have been featured in solo exhibitions nationally and in San Marino. He primarily creates with acrylics, oils, and enamel on canvas or wood. His work is organized into three main bodies of work. RUSH gathers paintings dedicated to sport — racehorses, greyhounds, judo, American football — where gesture close to action painting releases pure energy through color. BODY OF WATER explores swimming as an experience of suspension and freedom, a journey through a fluid blue world where the boundary between body and water dissolves. STILL AXIS is the most contemplative series: trees illuminated by shafts of light that become a metaphor for the human condition — the search for meaning, the hope that passes through silence.
