About this artwork
The painting series Sea Gifts serves as a continuation of the Earth Landscapes series. However, in Sea Gifts, depictions of human figures take center stage, set against the backdrop of evocative coastal landscapes.
In this body of work, I endeavor to materialize my understanding of "Magical Realism," which I believe is fundamentally rooted in the ambivalence of imagery. Ambivalence, in this context, refers to scenes that resist singular interpretation—offering,… instead, multiple, even opposing, readings simultaneously.
For example, consider the iconic scene in Andrew Wyeth's Christina's World. This image can be perceived as both tranquil and unsettling, or even as embodying a delicate balance between happiness and grief. Both interpretations are valid and coexist within the same visual narrative.
It is precisely this ambivalence—the ability to hold contrasting emotions or ideas within a single depiction—that I find most compelling in visual art today.
« It is very likely that the digital revolution taking place before our eyes will radically change art. And if I'm lucky, I can reflect these changes in my paintings. »
