About this artwork
The Watchmen series emerged as a counterpoint to Sea Gifts, creating a distinct separation between two contrasting worlds. Sea Gifts envisions an existence of eternal youth—an idealized realm free from suffering, where individuals shape their own destinies. In contrast, Watchmen immerses its figures in a world fraught with drama, passion, and turmoil, where they are at the mercy of fate.
In essence, Sea Gifts represents the domain of the gods, rendered… in allegorical form, while Watchmen belongs to the realm of humanity—flawed, unpredictable, and subject to forces beyond control.
Despite these differences, both series share a fundamental pursuit: the depiction of ambivalent scenes, where multiple, even contradictory, interpretations coexist. Ideally, serenity should carry an undercurrent of unease, joy should be tinged with tragedy, and every moment of certainty should hint at its own unraveling.
« It is very likely that the digital revolution taking place before our eyes will radically change art. And if I'm lucky, I can reflect these changes in my paintings. »
