The Layer Cake project is based on the principle of layer-by-layer superposition of pictorial elements. In painting, cooking, Photoshop, in which the artist made sketches, layers are superimposed on each other. Thus, under the influence of this analogy, a series of works appeared in which he dissects and structures classical painting, using it as a building material and creating pictorial collages. With the meticulousness… of a restorer, he “cleans” the pictorial heritage of Europe layer by layer, without adding anything of his own. Playing with various genres and mythological context, the artist builds his own worlds.
