About this artwork
I painted from life with India ink, in my sketchbook, during a training session between Max Vendrell and his stallion Delegado, a purebred Spanish horse, at the Petite Camargue stables near Aigues-Mortes. I seek to capture the essence of movement, the interplay of masses in tension.
Alexandra Bergmans uses painting, drawing, photography, and video dance, drawing on her solid training at the Beaux-Arts in Nancy and her experience as an equestrian artist. She blends sketchbook exploration, observational drawing, and performance, enriching her transdisciplinary style with dance and the lightness of riding. Through the profound bond she shares with horses, her work conveys a unique energy, composed of power, grace, and intimate emotion, inviting viewers to experience the freedom and communion between woman and animal.
