About this artwork
The splendor and beauty of flowering branches inspires me again and again. The wonderful quince branches are in my garden, where I cultivate many plants that particularly appeal to me as a painter. The small format is very well suited to working spontaneously and freely and still achieving enormous expressiveness. My pigment colors, which are mostly self-made, shine particularly intensely on the fine, handmade paper. Golden accents represent the… scent and magic of the flowers. To make the works look even better in the frame, I painted the edges of the paper, which is effective in the passepartout. The small pictures look great individually or in a row and can be hung next to or below each other.
« Each of my pictures should appear as if a little bit of color had happened by chance, formed into a composition in a miraculous way, but could disappear again at any time. »
Alexandra Hiltl is a German painter and draftswoman whose works are widely exhibited worldwide. Her art moves between abstraction and figuration and is not specifically concerned with botanical or physiological accuracy, but rather with the "atmosphere of the moment". The beauty of living things touches her deeply, and Hiltl compositions reflect an emotional imagery. Working primarily in watercolor technique, her artistic practice requires extreme concentration as she allows the color to flow along with concentrated shaping.
