About this artwork
The marketplace of a small town in is depicted in the radiant light of a summer or spring day. The square forms the center of the lively town. In the background you can see the Lower Gate and some of the city's churches. The beautiful town hall is unmistakably placed in the middle, slightly to the left. The morning light shines behind the silhouette of the houses. The streets are still empty, but soon there will be a colorful hustle and bustle in…
the picturesque town with its decorative facades. Hiltl poetically captures the atmosphere of this historic city center. Luminous colors and skilful color transitions allow buildings and feelings to merge into an enchanting atmosphere that is typical of a historic small town. The use of color spray conjures up dynamism and modernity in the picture. The work looks very interesting from the side, because the 4 cm thick stretcher frame is designed with color accents.

« Each of my pictures should appear as if a little bit of color had happened by chance, formed into a composition in a miraculous way, but could disappear again at any time. »
Alexandra Hiltl is a German painter and draftswoman whose works are widely exhibited worldwide. Her art moves between abstraction and figuration and is not specifically concerned with botanical or physiological accuracy, but rather with the "atmosphere of the moment". The beauty of living things touches her deeply, and Hiltl compositions reflect an emotional imagery. Working primarily in watercolor technique, her artistic practice requires extreme concentration as she allows the color to flow along with concentrated shaping.
