About this artwork
The painting "Night Blue" is inspired by the magical mood of the night. Several female figures, some of which are drawn on top of one another, are located in front of an abstract surface in gray and white
and shades of blue. The middle part of the painting is lighter and flooded with light, on the right the figures sink into the dark blue, above them golden dots glitter like stars. The work leaves conscious
many interpretations for the viewer too.… Applying the color to unprimed, brown and rough linen fabric creates a very large depth and a very special light. Glittering metal pigments were used to create additional changes with different incidence of light. The layered figures create dynamism and emerge more or less depending on the lighting situation. The edges of the canvas are also painted, creating a surprising three-dimensional impression from the side.

« Each of my pictures should appear as if a little bit of color had happened by chance, formed into a composition in a miraculous way, but could disappear again at any time. »
Alexandra Hiltl is a German painter and draftswoman whose works are widely exhibited worldwide. Her art moves between abstraction and figuration and is not specifically concerned with botanical or physiological accuracy, but rather with the "atmosphere of the moment". The beauty of living things touches her deeply, and Hiltl compositions reflect an emotional imagery. Working primarily in watercolor technique, her artistic practice requires extreme concentration as she allows the color to flow along with concentrated shaping.
