About this artwork
Several female figures stand before an abstract black and white background. Abstract forms, reminiscent of leopard spots, stretch across the canvas in black and bronze, connecting the figures. The figures radiate tension, elegance, and simultaneously, relaxation. Numerous drawings were layered, partially blurred or painted over, until the composition was complete. A sense of time is artistically captured. Upon closer inspection, further nudes can…
be discerned in the background, lending the work a multi-layered quality. The face of the standing main figure has delicate features and appears contentedly introspective. With this painting, I wanted to tell the story of a woman who has found her own path—the path to herself.

« Each of my pictures should appear as if a little bit of color had happened by chance, formed into a composition in a miraculous way, but could disappear again at any time. »
Alexandra Hiltl is a German painter and draftswoman whose works are widely exhibited worldwide. Her art moves between abstraction and figuration and is not specifically concerned with botanical or physiological accuracy, but rather with the "atmosphere of the moment". The beauty of living things touches her deeply, and Hiltl compositions reflect an emotional imagery. Working primarily in watercolor technique, her artistic practice requires extreme concentration as she allows the color to flow along with concentrated shaping.
