Stürzender Ikarus, nach dem antiken Mythos.

In der griechischen Mythologie versuchte Ikarus mit seinem Vater Dädalus mittels selbstgebauter Flügel aus Wachs und Federn vor König Minos von der Insel Kreta zu fliehen. Trotz der Warnung seines Vaters flog der übermütige Ikarus zu hoch, das Wachs seiner Flügel schmolz in der Hitze der Sonne, die Flügel fielen auseinander und er stürzte ins Meer.
Es ist… der Moment des Fallens, den ich zeige, der Moment kurz vor dem Tod, der mich gereizt hat. Ikarus hat es für eine kurze Zeit geschafft, seine Erdverbundenheit zu überwinden. Er hat hoch gegriffen und muss nun die Konsequenzen seiner Handlung tragen. Er hat sich dem Schicksal ergeben. Ikarus schaut also noch einmal zurück, mit klarem Blick, gen Himmel. Kein Wehmut, kein Leid, denn er hat die Gewissheit, das Fliegen erfolgreich versucht zu haben.

Alexandra Kapogianni-Beth is a Greek art historian and sculptor who lives and works in Germany. Her artistic career began over 20 years ago with initial experiments in sculpture and drawing. She deepened her knowledge through numerous courses at home and abroad and completed a sculpture degree at the IBKK Design and Art Center in Bochum-Wattenscheid, where she also teaches today. Her works focus on the human body—its expressiveness, fragility, and transformation. The contrast between strength and vulnerability, ideal beauty and imperfection, is central. She works with live models and anatomical studies. Fragmented forms reflect the complexity of human existence. A central element of her art is Greek mythology, whose figures, symbols, and stories she combines with classical aesthetics and modern impulses.
