“The Philosophy of the Banal.”
Put, put, now man tau, kumm rien! Tied for that bed!
So our neighbor Willi called every evening to put his chickens to bed (in the coop). His deep voice was always heard at least
two octaves higher, gentle and full of love.
When we spent the summer evening at our favorite spot by the pond, we witnessed this loving ritual.
Willi is long gone and his chickens are no longer there.
But sometimes,… when that special silence fills the air—a silence found only in the countryside—I can still hear him putting his chickens to bed. It's as if this place has preserved this decades-long ritual in its memory. As if it's a legacy full of love and respect that transcends time.
