A contemplative, pleasant scene that studies light & shadows.
This artwork was made using egg tempera, an antique technique used in early Egyptian decorations as well as Medival & Byzantine paintings. The medium is made by the artist at the moment of creation; using egg yolk as a binding agent, clove essence & dry-mineral natural pigments (obtained from her hometown in Mexico).
Made on a 3mm plywood, prepared with a rabbit skin gesso to perfectly… seal the pores & achieve a flat polished surface. The texture of the paint itself is thin & smooth, the pigmentation is rich and colors have different transparencies depending on the coloring matter & the percentage on the mix, lighter tones tend to look more matte while the indian-red of the background seems more similar to an oil paint.
The frame is very simple, made from raw wood to protect the painting as this technique is delicate. I do recommend to modify or restore it according to personal taste & the space it’ll be located.
« I looked for a window into my dreams, where pieces of life were transformed into a jungle that I had never seen. In the eyes of every flower and beast, I recognized myself. »
Alexia López Sosa is a prize-winning Mexican artist whose works have been widely exhibited nationally, as well as in France and Argentina. Three images are constants in the painter, printmaker, and sculptor's compositions, and include the mountain, the chair, and the wild herb. Sosa explores dreams and nature, and transformation through time. When she works, she tears her heart onto the canvas, draining her memories, dreams, and landscapes. She describes her art as a coded transcription of who she is.
